All about Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy—better known as HBOT—is the breathing of pure oxygen in a pressurized room called a pressure chamber. The air pressure in a pressure chamber is 1 1/2 to 3 times greater than the average amount of pressure in the atmosphere. HBOT increases the amount of oxygen in the blood and helps the blood carry more oxygen to your organs and tissues. HBOT is most often used to treat infected wounds, helping them heal more quickly and efficiently. Conditions Treated HBOT can treat a wide range of medical conditions, and your physician might recommend this treatment if you have these or other issues: · Air or gas embolism Although there’s insufficient scientific evidence at the moment, more research is underway to discover if the following conditions benefit from HBOT: allergies, arthritis, autism, cancer, cerebral palsy, chronic fatigue, cirrhosis, fibromyalgia, gastrointestinal ulcers and stroke. Why HBOT? Body tissue needs oxygen to function, and when your body’s tissues are damaged, they need even more oxygen to survive. By increasing the amount of blood your oxygen can carry, HBOT restores a healthy level of oxygen in the blood necessary to heal and fight off infection.
